Experience the magic of Walt Disney's Lion King... amazing puppetry, African dance, dramatic make-up artistry, acting and story telling! Who makes those spectacular puppets? Visit the studio of Michael Curry, world-renowned for his puppet designs, to see how Simba came to life. Dance to the pulsating rhythm of African music led by a local instructor and learn from a master story teller. Express your creative side in a fun-filled class with a professional actor and see how make-up can trick the eye to transform anyone into something magical. Make a behind-the-scenes visit to The Oregon Zoo to learn about their big cats and culminate this theatrical adventure of a lifetime at a world-class performance of The Lion King.

Day 1: Orientation/Getting to Know You!
(Monday, July 5)
   
 Arrive To: Location of program registration will be indicated in hotel lobby or given at time of hotel check in. Meet your group leader and obtain your program materials.
 Dinner: Enjoy a dinner at the hotel and meet the others that will share your adventure!
 Evening: Join your companions to learn about Portland and our program adventures along with learning a little bit about each other.

Day 2: Dance and Rhythm/Oregon Zoo
(Tuesday, July 6)
   
 Breakfast: Deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel
 Morning: Grandparents and grandchildren join together to learn a few dance steps and some rhythm to begin to gain an understanding of the complexities of a production that includes, dance, acting, voice and complex costuming.
 Lunch: Lunch at the Oregon Zoo
 Afternoon: On an expert led behind the scenes field trip to the Oregon Zoo learn about the big cats that are depicted in the Lion King production.
 Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel followed by an ice cream social.

Day 3: Michael Curry Studio/Free Time/Story Teller
(Wednesday, July 7)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel
 Morning: Visit the Michael Curry Designs Studio in Scappoose, Oregon. Here puppet designs go from concept, to design, to fabrication. Michael Curry and Julie Taymor co-designed masks and puppets for The Lion King on Broadway in 1997. His facility has continued to produce and repair these costumes. He has also worked on other Disney projects, Cirque Du Soleil projects, costumes and puppets for Olympic celebrations and many other productions.
 Lunch: Option to be dropped off downtown or return to the hotel with lunch and afternoon on your own to explore the area or just enjoy some down time with your grandchild.
 Dinner: An early dinner at the hotel
 Evening: A story teller will join the group to talk about story telling as a craft and to share some stories with the group.

Day 4: Stage Make-up/Oregon Children's Theater Class/Lion King performance
(Thursday, July 8)
   
 Breakfast: At the hotel.
 Morning: A local make-up artist with Hollywood experience will explain and demonstrate her craft using prosthesis for scars, fake blood and the colorful make-up that creates masks like those used on the actors in The Lion King.
 Lunch: At the hotel.
 Afternoon: Actors from the Oregon Children's Theater will offer a class in improvisation. Following the class, the actors will provide an insight into the life of an actor.
 Dinner: At the hotel.
 Evening: For the final evening you will attend a performance of The Lion King where you will be transported into the African Savannah through the costumes and music that celebrate the circle of life in this colorful tale. The costumes and puppets are amazing and you will find that you and your grandchild will be spellbound!

Day 5: Arts and Crafts Project/Farewell
(Friday, July 9)
   
 Breakfast: At the hotel.
 Morning: Work together on an Arts and Crafts project to take home as a souvenir of this special experience you've enjoyed together. This will be followed by a program wrap-up and departures.
