The Elderhostel Pooled Income Fund

A pooled income fund is exactly what it sounds like. Donors' contributions are “pooled” into a fund that is invested. Contributors, or their designated beneficiaries, then receive quarterly income payments based on their share of the total pool.

When you contribute to the Fund you make a special gift to Elderhostel, benefit from a large charitable contribution deduction, and receive lifetime income for yourself, a relative or friend. Each gift to the fund can benefit one of two income beneficiaries.

Here are examples of how donors benefit from the Elderhostel Pooled Income Fund.

SCENARIO 1: Frank, age 78, has enjoyed several history-themed programs and wants to make a special gift to Elderhostel. He has a CD of $8,000 coming due and, instead of rolling it over, he decides to contribute it to the Elderhostel Pooled Income Fund. Not only does he benefit from a charitable contribution deduction of $5,661, he also begins to receive quarterly income payments.

SCENARIO 2: Donna, age 65, is planning for her retirement and wants to diversify her sources of income. She chooses the Elderhostel Pooled Income Fund because of the potential for income to grow throughout her lifetime. She is also pleased that her $5,000 contribution yields a charitable contribution deduction of $2,680.

Donors can participate in the Fund with gifts of $5,000 or more.
