Major Giving
Generous individuals, foundations and corporations helped launch Elderhostel
more than 30 years ago. Thanks to the generosity of these special supporters,
Elderhostel grew from a summer program offering classes on 5 New Hampshire
college campuses to one that offers thousands of exciting programs worldwide
to participants. Gifts and grants of $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 and more
— including an extraordinary gift of $1 million — have been
a vote of confidence in the idea that older adults have limitless capacity
to learn and grow. Major gifts enable us to test new ideas and new directions,
and to invest in capital needs as we build on the solid foundation established
by our founders.
While we always welcome gifts that may be directed as needed,
you may choose to target your gift of $10,000 or more to support
one of the following:
• Name an endowed
scholarship: to honor yourself or someone special.
Scholarships are awarded from the income generated by your
gift
• Enhance program participation for people with physical
limitations: examples include equipping participants
with enhanced listening devices during Elderhostel
programs
• New program “incubator”: Invest in new
programs Elderhostel develops to adapt to changing
times and tastes
Major donors receive special recognition in Elderhostel’s
annual report, in communications from Elderhostel’s President
and recognition, when appropriate, at events and/or on published
program materials.
