Bernie Bierman, who recently celebrated his 98th birthday,
has funded several charitable gift annuities and attended 28 Elderhostel
programs.

In 2005, lyricist and composer, Bernie Bierman, released
his fifth CD, Bernie’s journey: the music of Bernie Bierman.
This CD is a compilation of his works spanning his musical career,
starting in 1947. Included on the CD is Let me be the One,
with lyrics written by Bernie and his close friend, the legendary
Hildegarde. |
Bernie’s songs have been performed by Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra,
Guy Lombardo, Sammy Kaye and other well known musicians.
“Lifelong learning and musical activities must have contributed
to my longevity,” Bernie admits. He calls it his “recipe
that keeps him eternally young.”
“Elderhostel has been a very important part of my life. I have
gladly made annuity contributions to a most worthy cause – one
that brings joy and learning to so many lives. I expressed my feelings
in a song I wrote and performed at the Elderhostel 25th anniversary
celebration in Baltimore titled The Elderhostel Family. I am
proud to be a member of that wonderful family.”
Bernie funded his first annuity when a “non-musical” CD
matured in 1999. He has been so pleased with the quarterly income payments
he receives that he funded several more in subsequent years.
