Elderhostel K. Patricia Cross Doctoral Research Grant
Overview
The Elderhostel K. Patricia Cross Doctoral Research Grant was
founded to aid doctoral students researching topics relevant to
aging and later-life learning. This $5,000 grant honors the work
of K. Patricia Cross, PhD, former Elderhostel Board Member and
Professor Emerita at the Graduate School of Education at the University
of California, Berkeley.
We encourage graduate students whose doctoral research focuses
on topics relevant to Elderhostel or later-life learning to
apply. This is the second year Elderhostel is offering the grant.
Grant Specifications
This $5,000 grant may be used in any way that aids the recipient
in either the completion or publication of their research and
dissertation results. Last year’s winner will be using
the grant to publish her dissertation research and results.
The Elderhostel K. Patricia Cross Doctoral Research Grant recipient
will be determined by a selection committee consisting of professors,
practitioners and other leaders in the field of later-life learning.

Eligibility
Applicants must be:
• A graduate student already conducting their doctoral
research.
• A doctoral candidate in any field where their
research will have a significant impact on the field of later-life
learning (education,
psychology, gerontology, social work or a related discipline).

To be considered for the Elderhostel K. Patricia Cross Doctoral Research
Grant, applicants
must submit the following materials:

• Two Recommendations’ contact Information
(one from your dissertation advisor and an additional
faculty member). We will be sending the link to
the online recommendation form to your submitted
references.
To be sent by applicant via email after submitting online application:
• Curriculum Vitae
• Grant Abstract: two- to three-page abstract
of the proposed study
To be submitted or mailed by references via online recommendation
form:
• Two Recommendations from applicant’s
dissertation advisor and an additional faculty member.
