THINGS MADE ESPECIALLY FOR YOU!
Here’s a trip that has something for everyone! This summer adventure
includes visits to a museum, a farm, a manufacturing facility, and a foundry.
Learn by experiencing something you do not get to see everyday.
Hopes Acres Robotic Dairy Farm – Hopes Acres is
one of the first farms to introduce robotic milking practices to America.
Today, it is one of only a handful of such locations worldwide offering
an up-close 90 minute guided tour. Watch robots milk the cows and witness
the pampering each cow enjoys with waterbeds and backscratchers! Learn
about these beautiful animals that are responsible for our milk. We will
also get to enjoy a sample of ice cream! Anyone allergic to peanuts
can NOT take this tour!
A.R.T. Research Enterprises, Inc. – A.R.T. is the
largest fine art foundry on the East Coast. Over the years, A.R.T. has
produced monumental castings to make statues and memorials from the work
of some of the most prestigious artists around the world. Once the sculpture
is crafted in clay, mold-making begins. A.R.T. employees use the ancient
“lost wax method,” a technique that dates back more than 2,000
years, to produce and cast the sculpture. At the end of the tour you will
have a greater appreciation for the laborious and highly skilled work
that goes into creating the bronze statues and monuments we see gracing
our town squares and parks.
National Watch & Clock Museum – Experience
the wonders of timekeeping over the centuries. This fascinating journey
begins in the theater with a ten-minute, educational video, “Time
the Underlying Order.” This brief historical look at the influences
of time on our lives is a wonderful introduction to the gallery. Enter
the gallery and take a look at ancient timepieces including a replica
of Stonehenge and continue the journey through the amazing modern technology
of today. During the journey, visitors enjoy 18th and 19th century timepieces,
culturally-inspired pieces from Europe, Asia and America, and discover
how unique timekeeping evolved to meet the needs of the railroad, military,
automotive and maritime industries.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s Vehicle Operations
– Dubbed “one of the 10 great places to watch stuff being
made” by USA Today, the behind-the-scenes tour offers glimpses
at manufacturing and assembly areas. The Vaughn L. Beals Tour Center
features exhibits that detail the plant's history, assembly and manufacturing
processes, and Custom Vehicle Operations. It also includes sit-on bikes,
a souvenir shop and theatre. The plant tour begins with a brief movie
and then journeys through various manufacturing and assembly areas on
the shop floor where you'll learn about the making of a legend.
A SUMMER CRUISE: THE PROUD MARY RIVER REVIEW
Discover the natural beauty of Raystown Lake and enjoy its many miles
of natural wooded shoreline as you have dinner and cruise on the Proud
Mary, a 67-foot custom designed Mississippi-style Paddle Wheeler. The
Proud Mary offers both a climate controlled lower deck and an open-air
promenade deck so, regardless of the weather, you can be assured of
a comfortable environment.
The trip will include a stop at the Raystown Lake Visitors Center where
there is a brief video as well as numerous displays of local wildlife
common to the area and a series of exhibits depicting the history of
the Raystown Dam and its importance to flood control in the area. Bring
your binoculars, the view from the front deck of the Visitors Center
is worth seeing, and on occasion, eagles have been sighted.
During the two-hour cruise, there will be a dinner buffet consisting
of roast top round of beef au jus, sliced chicken cordon bleu, roast
red bliss potatoes, tossed salad , green bean almandine, assorted pies
– Chef’s choice dessert table, rolls, tea and coffee and
iced tea.
Join us for a fun way to finish the summer season.
