The Learning Institute at New England College (LINEC) in Henniker,
New Hampshire has developed a lively series of courses for their summer
session. LINEC is a program to educate, entertain, and enhance life offering
non-credit, peer-led, peer-taught courses, totally volunteer, for the
sheer pleasure of learning, and is open to both retired and younger adults.
The Constitution and the Supreme Court – Congress
passes the laws, and the Supreme Court interprets them. This course
will focus on current Supreme Court issues.
Creating Family Jewels – This course is intended
to help participants develop and/or improve their writing skills. Everyone
will have an opportunity to write their personal stories or to choose
a different writing project.
The Mamas and the Papas in Opera – Long before
the 1960s popular rock group The Mamas and the Papas were “California
Dreamin,” opera featured an assortment of Moms and Dads whose
parenting skills range from cruel to cool. In this series we’ll
sample the results.
Personal Computer Issues – Are you ready to
buy a computer or to upgrade to a more modern computer? In this course,
participants will look at Buying a New PC and Protecting Your PC.
Current Issues – The presenters will raise current
domestic and international issues as a basis for lively discussion.
Participants are encouraged to bring topics and issues of concern.
Yoga – This class will do some basic yoga postures,
gentle stretching, breathing, and relaxation exercises to bring east
and balance.
The Now or Never Reading Group – Nikolai Gogol’s
Dead Souls has bee called “one of the world’s great
comic novels.” We will hear The Teaching Company lectures by Professor
Irwin Weil and then discuss the book. Attendance at the previous lectures
on Russian Literature is not necessary. Try to read this novel beforehand.
Paperback copies are readily available.
More Food Issues – A discussion of current trends
and controversies on what is touted as “healthy food/diets”
and what is truly nourishing. Learn how to be an informed consumer in
order to choose high-quality, nutrient-dense foods.
