The following was taken from the November, 2006 issue of the Lyceum
News.
Members were asked how Lyceum has enriched their lives. Following are
some of the answers.
Virginia Ulsh: “I have only superlatives to
give Lyceum. It’s put my mind back into action. I always loved
school and after having been away so long, it’s wonderful to be
back in the classroom and exposed to so many new and different topics.”
Claire Burkhardt: “It’s provided me with
so much – friends, keeping me busy and keeping my mind busy. It’s
just a wonderful, wonderful group. It’s everything to me. And
the support I received from the group after Darrel’s death was
so wonderful.”
Ruth Wendell: “It makes me enjoy retirement.
I’m glad I didn’t move away after retiring. It makes learning
fun and it makes me realize how much I don’t know.”
Lorraine Naro: “I like the idea of expanding
my horizons at this age. I find Lyceum very fulfilling. If I were a
lot younger I’d be back at the University auditing classes, but
my life is so hectic (27 grandchildren) I don’t take courses at
the University. I love philosophy, history, travel. Lyceum enhances
my life.”
Curtis Hartwig: “It’s like going back
to college and rekindling those intellectual interests I had in my years
of idealism.”
Jerry Siegal: I am sight-impaired, therefore I’ve
joined classes where vision isn’t needed and discussion is important.”
Kathy Gardner: “Now that I have ‘graduated’
from teaching, I am very happy to be a member of Lyceum. Lyceum has
enriched my life by giving me the opportunity to meet many new and interesting
people. It is wonderful to wake up in the morning and come to Lyceum,
school for the fun of leaning. I love my courses,”
