Taken from the fall 2006 newsletter of the Institute for Continuing Learning at Young Harris College in Georgia.

Young Harris College and the Institute for Continuing Learning are proud to present a series of fascinating and provocative seminars entitled, “Reflections on Georgia Politics.” The seminars, which will be open to the entire community free of charge, will provide participants with an inside look at Georgia’s public servants over the past five decades.

Former Governors Carl Sanders, Joe Frank Harris and Roy Barnes are scheduled to participate in the program along with Governor Sunny Perdue. Also invited to take part are Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss, former Congressman Ed Jenkins, Burt Lance, prize-winning reporter and editor Bill Shipp and if it can be arranged around his busy schedule, former President Jimmy Carter.

We are indebted to noted political historian and campaign consultant Bob Short for organizing this exciting series of seminars and for coordinating the visits to the YHC campus of so many notable Georgia public servants. Bob is a veteran public affairs and political consultant who has served as administrative aide to four Georgia governors and two U.S. Senators. He also managed the campaigns of several public officials, including Jimmy Carter when he ran for Governor in 1966.

The seminars are scheduled for Thursday afternoons at 3:15 p.m. in the Goolsby Building’s Wilson lecture Hall on the campus of the College. The schedule for the series is still being finalized and you will have to watch your newspapers as more dates are confirmed, but the following commitments have been received to date:

September 7 – Bob Short will review the political life and service of Senator Herman Talmadge followed by a conversation with the Senator’s longtime aide, T. Rodgers Wade

September 14 or 28 – Prize-winning reporter and editor Bill Shipp

October 5 – Former Congressman Ed Jenkins

November 2 – Former Governor Joe Frank Harris

November 16 – Former Governor Roy Barnes
