Center for Lifelong Learning at the University of West Florida
• At the end of every semester a Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon
is held.
• They invite and acknowledge all the UWF instructors who have led
classes.
• At the 10th Anniversary luncheon the Center recognized the campus
director who was there in 1993 as well as the current campus director.
• On Valentine’s Day the Center presented cards containing
small monetary gifts to the hard-working, dedicated UWF staff.
• As part of that celebration they recognized their “Sweetheart
Team” in the monthly newsletter.
• The “Team” consisted of the campus director, the campus
business/operations director, the administrative assistant to the campus
director, two UWF clerks, two UWF receptionists and the person
behind the UWF computer operations center.
• The Center gives constant and ongoing recognition to the UWF staff
and faculty who help make their program so successful.
Learning Institute for Elders, University of Central Florida
• Show the benefits of your LLI to the mission of the institution.
• Having models of lifelong learning and successful aging on campus
helps the host reach their diversity goals.
• Provide resources for the undergrads (mentoring) and faculty (guest
lectures and research participation).
• Stewardship to the university and to the academic and support
units that help your organization achieve their mission (library, theater,
parking services, athletics).
• The LLI contributes as an organization but members also make contributions
on their own.
• If you are part of Continuing Education, make sure that you have
campus-wide visibility.
• If not part of CE, align yourself with a highly visible unit.
• We come under the umbrella of the College of Arts and Sciences
and the Initiative on Aging and Longevity.
• The Director of the Initiative serves as the “UCF Liaison”
to LIFE.
• Get a high visibility person on your advisory board.
• AT UCF, the President’s wife is an active member of our
board.
• Establish a website on the university server (using a webmaster
from your LLI) and keep it updated.
• Keep in touch with the Public Affairs/Information office on your
campus.
Senior Academy, University of South Florida, Sarasota
• Always maintain sponsor name identification in all internal &
external communications.
• Participate in all local activities in which sponsor has an interest.
• Identify sponsor in all available free calendar listings in local
newspapers and in selective paid advertising.
• Send email announcement of upcoming USF campus programs to all-member
list (slightly over 50% have email).
• Extensive use of local professionals and campus faculty in a given
field.
• Respond to both internal & external inquiries regarding sponsor
activities, even though the inquiry may have nothing to do with their
program.
• Cover all costs with member fees so they are not a drain on the
sponsor.
• Urge members to contribute to sponsor and own Foundation accounts.
• Run the program like a business so they don’t embarrass
the sponsor.
• Make their database readily available for sponsor-oriented activities.
• Become part of their sponsor’s publicity program on local
cable
