Center for Lifelong Learning at University of West Florida
• The University of West Florida Center for Lifelong Learning is
located 45 miles east of the University¹s main Pensacola campus in
the talent rich city of Fort Walton Beach.
•Although the UWF CLL operates on an all volunteer basis, membership
involvement is dynamic: enrollment, now at about 682 members, including
teachers, continues to grow.
• The Fort Walton Beach area is fortunate in having two major Air
Force bases nearby, Eglin AFB and Hurlburt AFB, which bring highly trained
individuals into the area, and the white sand beaches and blue Gulf Coast
waters bring them back to retire here and to share their expertise in
volunteer organizations as instructors.
• The beaches bring the tourists, especially the “snow birds”
who come in the Fall and Winter and take as many courses as they can cram
in during the eight week spring semester before going back North.
• The Fall semester enrolls primarily local residents.
• In addition, Fort Walton Beach has two local colleges: Okaloosa
-Walton Community College and the off-campus University of West Florida
Center where our classes are held.
• Both provide CLL with highly trained instructors, all of whom
are volunteers.
• Due to this wealth of talent and training of our volunteer faculty,
leadership development has not been an issue of concern.
• Over the next few months an indoctrination program for new instructors
will be developed to insure that new instructors understand the environment
in which the Center operates and have a full understanding of the operating
guidelines of the Center.
