LUNCH AND LEARN AT OLLI
This past spring, Lunch and Learn topics at the Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute at the University of Florida in Tampa included the following:
Civil War Retrospective – Participants learned some
little-known facts about America’s Civil War. The lecturer gave
his unique perspective on the conflict, based on his extensive collection
of Civil war publications.
Russia: Friend or Foe? – Is Vladimir Putin a friend,
foe or competitor? What really motivates this man and under what conditions
can the U.S. do business with him? After a brief review of the Gorbachev
and Yeltsin eras, participants looked at Russia today in terms of
Putin’s views and actions as he asserts Russia’s power.
The Corrections Piece to the Criminal Justice Puzzle –
Participants learned about the eight levels of correctional intervention:
jail, pre-trial intervention, probation, community control, halfway
houses, prison, re-release and parole.
Introduction to Hospice – The mission and philosophy
of hospice was discussed. Attendees learned how the team approach
is used to meet the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual
needs of patients and their families who are dealing with life-limiting
illnesses. They also heard about when hospice care is appropriate
and the benefits and services that are available to those receiving
hospice care.
Mother Dearest: Reader’s Theatre – Attendees were
entertained by the new Reader’s Theatre group as they brought
them their sometimes irreverent recollections of motherhood through
their dramatic presentations.
Dear Old Dad: Reader’s Theatre – A continuation
of the Reader’s Theatre recollections, as they give Dad his
due in this refreshing blend of poetry and prose.
