funds.
Please contact the presenters for more detailed information.
AUALL at Auburn University
• For their 10th anniversary celebration they got funding from the
University.
• They have established a Foundation account thanks to a donation
from a member.
• There is always a special section on the registration form giving
people the option to donate extra money to the program.
• They have also developed a “memorial gifts” and “gifts
in honor of” program.
LIR at Edison College/Charlotte Foundation
• The Charlotte Foundation donated $1 million to the College to
conduct a Health Aging Study in Charlotte County.
• As part of that study, the LIR at Edison Community College was
founded.
• People take classes at the LIR and “pay as they go.”
• To cover other expenses, the LIR also has a separate “Friends”
program.
• Friends program goals are to provide funding support for innovative
programming and to reach out to
a broader base of potential students.
• A $20-$25 yearly membership includes a special lecture/luncheon
series and day trips.
• This money also pays for such contingencies as the LIR banner,
“I Love LIR” stickers, postage, long distance calls, thank-you
gift cards for speakers, an annual thank-you luncheon for all volunteers
and decorations for special events.
• They now have approximately 100 “Friends.”
Other fundraising ideas from the floor included:
• Annual Appeal
• In Honor Of programs
• Business Sponsorship
• Charging a little extra for field trips
• Working with host development offices
• Drawing on the fundraising expertise of the members
• Raffles, auctions and social events
• State Humanities Councils
• Wellness funds from foundations, both local and national
• Offering courses at local retirement communities (developers will
pay for this)
• Listing several different projects on an appeal so people can
choose where they would like their money to go
