HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY
Congratulations to the Senior College at the University of Maine Hutchinson
Center in Belfast. They just celebrated their 5th Anniversary. From their
fist semester in April 2001 with 50 people willing to try this new idea,
membership has grown to almost 500 as of today.
Well done, Senior College!
ALR RECEIVES WAL-MART GRANT
Congratulations to the Academy for Learning in Retirement at Empire
State College in Saratoga Springs, NY. They received a $1,000 grant
this summer from Wal-Mart to expand the parameters of their program
to reach more senior citizens in their area. The funds will be used
for scholarships, program development and member recruitment.
OSHER AWARDS $100,000 TO SLU
Congratulations to Senior Learning Unlimited at UC Davis in California.
They just received a grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation and will
become an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). The grant will be
used to nurture ad sustain the program as envisioned when SLU was created
“as a participatory and self-directed group…to further the
pursuit of lifelong learning by offering a diverse educational program
of high quality, affordable courses for seniors living in Davis and
nearby communities,” With this gift, the OLLI at UC Davis will
be able to provide more courses and activities that engage the mind
and brighten the eye.
