PROGRAM EMAIL ADDRESSES
EIN wants to remind all the programs to keep us updated when
your contact person, either a staff person or a volunteer, changes.
We need to have up-to-date emails for both the web site (you want to
make sure potential new members can contact you) and our email distribution
system. And please make sure that your IT Department doesn’t block
emails coming from EIN, which seems to happen from time to time. Your
help with this is VERY much appreciated.
UPDATE NE/EAST REGIONAL CONFERENCE
The conference planners have sent out an email to all the programs in
the New England/East area asking for volunteers to help plan next year’s
conference, being sponsored by the SOAR program in Potsdam, NY from
June 3-5, 2007. Please think about volunteering your expertise to help

OLLI-DUKE JOB POSTING
Sara Craven, the long time Program Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute at Duke University in North Carolina will be retiring at the
end of this year. She will be greatly missed! In preparation for her
retirement, the Search Committee has begun looking for her replacement.

CHINA PROGRAM AT ILEAD
The ILEAD program at Dartmouth in New Hampshire is offering LLI members
who will be in the area a chance to spend from one to seven weeks studying
about China: The Next Super Power? The cost is $60 for the seven weeks
or $10 per ticket per lecture. For more information go to their web

LLI PROGRAMS HIGHLIGHTED
Congratulations to the following LLIS that were spotlighted in the spring
2006 issue of the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA)
Live & Learn AARP publication. They are the Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute at S. Maine University in Portland, Harvard ILR, the Osher
Institute for Learning in Retirement at Duke, the PLATO Society of UCLA,
and the Renaissance Society of California State in Sacramento. To read

OLLI PRODUCES NEW VIDEO
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University in
Virginia has produced a promotional 13-minute video. The video can be
accessed on their web site at www.olligmu.org/ollistory.htm.
PEER STUDY GROUPS
Thank you everyone who responded to Josette Lee from the LLI at Bard
College regarding her request for information on Peer Study Groups.
The response was excellent. We have compiled all the responses and you

FINDING NEW INSTRUCTORS
The Community Academy for Lifelong Learning (CALL) in State College,
Pennsylvania has come up with a novel idea to gain new course leaders.
The Strategic Planning Curriculum Strengthening Sub-Committee is offering
a special prize package to the member who brings in the most new instructors
by September 22nd. The “Tailgate” prize package being offered
consists of a plaid stadium blanket, a $35 gift certificate for a party
platter of goodies, a couple of decks of playing cards, plastic plates
and cups, and a nice tote bag to carry everything in.
WCTC WRAPS UP 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Learning in Retirement program at Waukesha Community Technical College
in Pewaukee, Wisconsin just finished their 10th Anniversary year. In
April the celebration year began with a luncheon and program at a nearby
hotel/conference center. The keynote speaker for that luncheon was Margaret
Farrow, former Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor and State Senator, whose
remarks focused on the importance of lifelong learning. A 10th Anniversary
booklet, filled with members’ contributions and reflections was
also produced. Along with that, a service project was undertaken for
the entire year. Members donated books, videos, stuffed animals, art
supplies and compact discs to the WCTC Child Care Center. The special
year ended with the Annual Meeting/Luncheon in June. Congratulations
WCTC LIR!
HIGHLIGHTING DONATIONS
The back page of the summer newsletter from the Lifelong Learning Society
at Christopher Newport University in Virginia is dedicated to listing
the names of members and others who have generously given money as Benefactors
($1,000 or more), Memorials ($1,000 or more) and those who donated in
Honor Of…of at least $1,000.
FESTIVAL OF ART
The fourth annual Festival of Art was held at the Senior College, University
of Maine Hutchinson Center in May. A stunning 139 visual artists of
senior college age submitted entry forms. 84 artists were new to the
show, with 55 returning. Artists represented 58 different Maine towns.
Since its inception, the exhibit has generated a great deal of interest
and attendance has been excellent.
NEW “Q REVIEW” PUBLISHED
QUEST, A Community for Lifelong Learning in New York City has just published
its 11th volume of the Q Review. The Q Review is the
creative voice of the QUEST program and is filled with prose, poetry
and art by their members.
SENIOR ACADEMY GETS NEW HOME & NEW NAME
Senior Academy at the University of South Florida, Sarasota is about
to get a new home. With the anticipated completion and dedication of
the new USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus in early fall, they will be moving
into new offices and classrooms in a sparkling new three-story structure.
Some of the classrooms may actually overlook Sarasota Bay. The building
will have the latest in handicapped accessibility and a state-of-the-art
climate control system. Senior Academy will also be changing their name
to the USF Academy for Lifelong Learning. The impetus for this name
changes came from a growing number of their membership who didn’t
care to be dubbed “senior” under any circumstances, as well
as the mutual benefit to USF and the academy by having mention of each
other in the title. The USF name reinforces the fact that they are located
on the campus and helps spread the word that USF is involved in Lifelong
Learning as well.

Catherine the Great, by Isabel de Madariaga. A short up-to-date
biography of Catherine the Great and her accomplishments. Written by
an eminent scholar of Russian history.
Catherine the Great, by Henri Troyat, paperback. The most popular
biography of one of history’s most powerful women.

Community College in Annandale for this book suggestion from their May
newsletter.
Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracy Kidder. This nonfiction
work tells the story of Dr. Paul Farmer as he pursues his life’s
calling: to cure infectious diseases and to bring the lifesaving tools
of modern medicines to those who need them most.

the United States, the Library of Congress created this exhibition featuring
more than 200 items from its Judaica collection. The items portray the
Jewish experience from immigration and acculturation to discrimination,

letter to the Newport Hebrew Congregation, General Grant's edict banning
Jews from Kentucky, and Abraham Lincoln's letter rescinding that ban.
