The travel arrangements included in our programs are designed to provide a combination of value and convenience. After enrollment, you will receive information from the travel coordinator with details about:

international flight choices
domestic connections
post-program tour options, etc.

International flights are via regularly-scheduled commercial airlines. Flights may be non-stop, direct, or connecting, depending upon location and carrier. Because Elderhostel books air travel in volume, our travel coordinators are usually able to negotiate discounted group airfares with minimal restrictions. In addition, they can assist you with your individual travel arrangements.

Registration   Information

Our travel coordinators can assist you with your individual travel arrangements, and will usually be able to obtain favorable rates for you thanks to the Elderhostel volume of purchasing power. Please note that we must reserve a substantial number of seats many months in advance of the program to ensure that space is available for all participants. Inevitably, there may be some last minute "bargain" fares for individuals advertised by some airlines. While these could be lower than our negotiated group fares, please be aware that they are of extremely limited availability and usually carry severe restrictions and penalties for making changes.

Departure Cities

Each program schedule lists options for departure cities with corresponding program costs. Departure cities for each program are those most frequently requested by hostelers and include any available non-stop flights. The program costs shown include favorable airfares negotiated by our travel coordinators with no (or reduced) penalties and conditions.

Departure City Options for International Programs

For international programs including airfare, you have options in selecting your departure city. (Elderhostel defines "departure city" as a place where your air travel originates, whether direct or making connections en route.) Elderhostel has contracted airfares for nearly every major U.S. city. However, space restrictions prevent publishing a full list. We have shown prices for several departure cities nationwide, representing the price range, and you may select one of these when registering. If you prefer another of our contracted departure cities, please call our Registration Department toll free (at 1-877-426-8056) or visit our website (www.elderhostel.org) for more departure options. Our Travel Coordinators will gladly assist with your flight arrangements. After your registration is processed, you will receive a billing statement that will reflect the total program price, including airfare from the city of your choice.

Program Only Option

If you prefer, you can make your own independent airfare arrangements to your program. This may be advantageous for persons with frequent flyers miles, airline employees, etc. The program price without airfare is shown under the column headed "POP." If you choose the Program Only Price option, please be aware that many airlines now assess stringent penalties for changes and/or cancellations - up to 100% of the ticket price in certain cases - for which you are personally responsible. For your protection, please do not make reservations before you receive confirmation of enrollment from Elderhostel, which will include an itinerary to help you make your travel plans. Approximately six weeks before your program begins, the Program Provider will send you independent travel information, including the time and place of designated group transfers at the beginning and end of the program. You are welcome to use such group transfers, if space is available.

Post-Program Services

As a service to hostelers who wish to travel independently following the conclusion of the Elderhostel program, our travel coordinators offer optional post-program tours. These are standard commercial travel arrangements not connected with Elderhostel, Inc. and do not include classes or instruction. The travel coordinator will provide you with information about post-program tour options following enrollment.
